Tips For Protecting Your Digital Camera From Water Damage

There are so many high tech gadgets that we use today. Our laptops, blackberries, cell phones, and digital cameras are cherished items that we really do not like to leave home without. Actually, the beauty of all these things is that we can take them with us wherever we go. With all the moving around that they do, the possibility of them being, lost, stolen, or damaged is a possibility.

Most warranties on these items do not cover any of these things. We are pretty much on our own as far as recovery or repair. Some of these things can be salvaged if they are damaged by water. With a digital still camera or a digital video camera, soaking water damage could spell certain death. There is a slight chance they can be repaired, but not likely.

Even the places that will attempt to repair digital cameras of any kind that have been water damaged will probably charge you a non refundable fee up front of probably at least fifty dollars and will not guarantee repair. With odds like these, it is almost throwing away more money than it will already cost you to just replace the camera.

The very best thing to do is avoid getting your digital camera wet in the first place.
Precautions are not that hard if you just implement them from the beginning. First of all, do not let small children or pets near them. Anything children or pets get near can inadvertently get wet, by one means or another. Slobber is normally not fatal, except maybe to digital cameras.

If you are brave enough to use your camera around pools, bath tubs, hot tubs, spas, lakes, or any other body of water, for goodness sakes keep it in a waterproof container. A sealed plastic bag may not be enough. Put it in a sealed plastic bag and then into an airtight plastic box as well.

Double protection is defiantly not over the top, especially if your camera cost $500.00 dollars or more. Even when you are not around water, your camera can be damaged if the viewing panel is cracked. An airtight plastic box will help prevent it from being crushed as easily, as well as protect it from spills.

Water damage aside, digital devices can be very sensitive and the more care you use with them, the better. We never miss our new high tech toys so very much as when they bite the dust!
