New Hotels For Heathrow

A continuous increase in the number of passengers travelling to and from Heathrow Airport has led to a shortage of hotel rooms in the area. As a result of this, one of Scotland’s richest men, Lord Laidlaw has made plans to build two new hotels near the airport. The 70 million pound venture is going to be a collaboration with construction company Rokeby Developments and will see one 600 room hotel connected to Terminal 5 and another close to the airport being built.

Plans for the new hotels began after it was expressed that there is an under - provision of new hotel rooms for when Terminal 5 opens. Both Lord Laidlaw and Rokeby Developments believe that after their construction there will be no shortage of hotel rooms in the area, even after Terminal 5 is in full swing.

More hotels are going to be a definite requirement once Terminal 5 has opened as there will be so many more passengers using the airport and as it is there is always a shortage of hotel rooms around the airport.

Terminal 5 is also going to improve tourism and the infrastructure of the capital, including hotel development. The new hotels will also be very handy when it is the 2012 Olympics as this is set to bring in massive amounts of tourists which means that everyone is going to be fighting for a place to stay. These hotels are very likely to prove popular as some people coming for the Olympics. They are going to be here purely for that reason so they don’t really mind where they stay and aren’t here to do any sight - seeing so it’s easier for them to stay at the airport.

London is the number one city destination for international travel, with 2006 being a record year for overseas visitors to the capital and London hotels have experienced their strongest performance levels since the late 1990s. With statistics like this Lord Laidlaw and Rokeby Developments are almost guaranteed to have success with the new airports.

There is no doubt that the new hotels, flights and Heathrow Airport London parking are going to cause debates between the airport and anti - expansion groups such as HASAN. However, it appears as though Heathrow are just trying to meet the demands of their customers. For example, if the airport is going to be dealing with an extra 80,000 passengers every day then they are going to have to increase the amount of Heathrow Airport London parking available.

The new terminal has cost 4.2 billion pounds to build and will open in March 2008. It will have the capacity to handle 30 million passengers a year, taking Heathrow’s total number of passengers to around 90 million. However, more hotels aren’t the only thing that is going to be needed following the opening of Terminal 5. Extra transportation links are going to be required including trains, busses and Heathrow Airport London parking.
