This takes some time, but if you are helpful and offer quality information to the discussions you are involved in you are branding yourself with every forum post you make.

5. Understand that building yourself as a brand takes time. View it as building a house one brick at a time. Your bricks are the things you are doing. These are the basics of internet marketing. Are you trying to get visitors to your website? This is known as getting traffic and it is becoming harder and harder to do because the number of competitors you have is growing everyday.

Here is what I see. Bob builds a website. Not just any old website either. This is the best looking website in his niche, whatever that means. So it dawns on Bob that he is going to have to advertise or no one will come. He reads that ezine advertising is a good thing, so he runs an ad and does not make one sale. He is not even sure if anyone actually came to his site.

Next he hears about how people are buying 10,000 hits for $29 so he thinks this must be the best form of internet advertising. He buys the hits, gets a report showing that all 10,000 have been done and he still has not made one sale.

Now he is getting mad. He reads about how great pay per click advertising is, so without really understanding what he is doing he sets up a small campaign and gives out his credit card. Next day he wakes up and finds he has spent $500 in 12 hours to make just one sale.

We could go on and on. This is not the best way to advertise online. You are better to learn as many free or nearly free methods of promoting your business first. Then branch into paid methods as you learn what you like to do and what is working for you.

If you like to write try article marketing. If you like people try social networking and forum marketing. If you do not like to type try traffic exchanges. You will find what you enjoy and you will do more of it. As you master that then branch out.

Your business will become profitable and you will not jump around spending time and money and finally giving up and quitting.

How many programs have you joined so far? How many websites have you built? It is amazing to me that 95% of all online businesses never make a profit. Many do not even make a sale and it usually comes down to one thing.

In this article I am going to hit the nail on the head as to why most people fail online.

If you are to believe some of the really slick ads promoting the next great thing, then you will not fail. After all it guarantees your success so it must be true. Unfortunately slick advertising is what it takes to get suckers like us to fork over our money.

Here is the inside tip none of the so called internet marketing gurus really ever teach. You need SKILLS to make money online. Think about that. You can have the best product in the world, but who really cares if they never see it.

You need marketing skills to get traffic to any website or blog you have. Unless you pay for traffic and even then you need skills to do that right. Try and run a Google Adwords campaign when you do not have a clue what you are doing.

You can always hire people to do things for you if you know where to find them and how choose the right ones. Not as easy as it sounds when you are trying to communicate with a website designer in India.

You need skills to develop the right self image to stick with it when the going gets tough. This is a personal thing. 1. When you start out choose a theme for your blog that you have an interest in. Maybe it is an area that you have knowledge in from work or a hobby. Anything that will make it easier for you is a plus to you and your readers.
